The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department enjoys a tradition of leadership and excellence in law enforcement tactics, training, and technology. Consistent with that reputation, our Department developed the Advanced Surveillance and Protection (ASAP) system to assist with our gang and crime fighting efforts.
ASAP features a variety of technologies such as video surveillance systems, acoustic gunshot detection systems, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) systems, and other advanced technologies, integrated into a command center. ASAP will serve to expand the use of advanced technologies in the field, strengthen criminal prosecution with video evidence, and provide real-time intelligence to improve officer safety.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is deploying the Advanced Surveillance and Protection system initially in the city of Compton. It was during our initial phases of deployment that our organization learned of Target's Safe City program. A Safe Cities Foundation was created with the assistance of the Target Corporation and the Belkin Corporation. The purpose of the Safe Cities Foundation is to assist law enforcement in Los Angeles County with the implementation of advanced crime fighting technologies.
Our organization was pleased to learn of Target's level of commitment to the communities it services. The Target Corporation has created an innovative program for use by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department which unites public, private and community organizations to enhance public safety. It is our intent to ensure the Safe City program is expanded to additional communities throughout the County of Los Angeles.
The Target Corporation, through its Safe Cities program, has taken a leadership role in making our communities safer.
